Ladle Shroud

One of the most widely used Special Shape CC Refractories, Ladle Shroud is used to minimize the reoxidation of steel during pouring from Ladle to Tundish and also eliminate the splashing of Steels. The Very word “Shroud “ means Covering and LS literarily covers the Steel Stream coming out of Ladle. Rather, in absence of LS, some grades of Steel can not be cast at all as the heavy clogging of bore of Collector Nozzle will make it very difficult to get a continuous stream of molten steel. Our Ladle shrouds are tailor-made to meet the specific requirements of customers.

To further minimize Reoxidation of Steel, Argon supply at the junction of Collector Nozzle and LS is provided.

Ladle Shroud Type:

1) Based on Argon Supply methods

A. Non-Argon type (Conventional Type)

  • Without Can
  • With Can at Collar and Neck

B. Argon Flow Type

  • Argon Supply through Porous Rings at different location
  • Argon supply through Can at Top of Collar
  • Argon Supply at Annular Space in Cup Area

2) Based on Cup and Neck Design

  • L type used in Counter Weight Type Manipulators
  • T type used in Counter Weight Type Manipulators
  • Y type used in Hydraulic Manipulators

3) Based on Submersion Method of LS

  • Bell Type
  • Reverse Taper Type

Above LS can be supplied with various types of Gaskets to provide further sealing effect between the Collector Nozzle and Ladle Shroud Cup.

All above LS can be provided with various combinations of mixes to maximize the life of LS in different operating conditions of Casting in Steel Plants. A few examples are given below :

Ladle Shroud with argon injection (grooved)

Shroud ladle with argon gas inlet (metal cane)

Shroud ladle with argon injection (porous)
